The Butterflyfish

The Butterflyfish is one of the few fish that can fly.
The fish has well-developed chest muscles that enable it to flap its large pectoral fins in flight. It needs a short run before take-off. So when it wants to fly it swims speedily forward and then launches itself into the air. Once out of water it flaps its pectoral fins and is able to fly a short distance before falling back into the water.
The butterflyfish is found in the lakes and ponds and in the sluggish weedy waters of central West Africa.
